11th Avenue Redevelopment Making Progress

The removal of the vacant commercial building at 11 11th Avenue (former Iowa Telecom building) is scheduled to begin later this month. Asbestos removal has been completed. DeCarlo Demolition will begin their work by removing the large parking lot on the north side of the building. The demolition of the building will take approximately five weeks and backfilling will take an additional four weeks. Demolition work will take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily. Weekend work is unlikely.

Hubbell Development has a purchase agreement with the city of Grinnell to purchase a portion of the lot. Their plans are to build two apartment buildings in the center of the lot and townhomes along the north side of 11th Avenue. The city will retain ownership of the remaining land and expects single-family homes to be built on lots facing Sunset Street and 13th Avenue.
